Big Bad Mat

Big Bad Mat Heavy-duty composite access mat

The biggest, baddest mat. Solid to the core.

A true solid core, not hollow, in superior virgin UHMWPE resin. Rated to 200 tons, and 65 mats to a truck instead of 40.

The Big Bad Difference

True solid core. Not hollow.

Most heavy-duty composites are 4-inch hollow HDPE shells with flanged edges. The Big Bad Mat is solid virgin UHMWPE at half the thickness, with no flange to break and a deeper tread. That is also why 65 of them fit on a truck.

Big Bad Mat

Solid core

SOLID UHMWPE 1.5 in. mat + 0.5 in. tread = 2 in.
  • ✓True solid core. Not hollow, so nothing to crack, crush or fill with mud.
  • ✓Superior virgin UHMWPE resin. Stronger than the HDPE most composites use.
  • ✓No hollow flange. Allows for mats to “butt up together” for an even faster install.
  • ✓Deeper protruded tread. Grips the ground like a football cleat and keeps the mat in place. Interlocking not necessary.
  • ✓Easy to handle. Mats so light even a skid steer can do it.
Typical composite

Hollow shell

HOLLOW HDPE 4 in. thick, mostly air flange
  • ✕Hollow flanges prone to break.
  • ✕Unpinned mats can seesaw, posing a safety risk to equipment and personnel.
  • ✕Flat, low-profile tread requires interlocking.
  • ✕HDPE resin.
  • ✕Fewer mats per machine, so slower installs.

427ft

Of access off a single flatbed.

One 48 ft flatbed carries 65 Big Bad Mats, enough for 427 ft. A truck of 40 hollow mats builds only 260 ft. A 64% increase in linear footage per truck.

Connections2-way connectors
Two-way connectors are available, but interlocking is not necessary: no flange, and a deeper protruded tread.
Shipping65 per 48 ft flatbed
A standard U.S. 48 ft flatbed carries 65 mats, enough for 427 ft of access.
FlammabilityUL94HB
Rated UL94HB for flammability resistance.
The bottom line

Less freight. Faster installs. Better grip.

Fewer trucks

65 mats per load instead of 40. About 12 truckloads build a mile of access, instead of 20.

Faster in and out

More mats per machine means faster install and removal.

Flexible

Conforms to uneven ground, so the road stays flat where the ground is not.

Traction

A deeper protruded tread gives maximum grip for equipment and crew.
